Ben Juliano, AMFT
Ben chose to become a Marriage and Family Therapist because he wanted to help people struggling through difficult times to have a safe space for themselves. He was inspired by his own journey in life, being born and raised on Oahu, Hawaii, being a second-generation Filipino-American and a member of the LGBTQ+ community that has experienced religious trauma, he had seen how mental health was stigmatized and witnessed loved ones go through life not knowing how to work through their struggles. Ben wanted a career that allowed him to listen to people’s life stories and the ability to help guide them through healing in a safe and accepting place.
Ben’s approach to treatment is through an attachment lens where he believes relationships are established from a young age and by guiding his clients through their past selves to heal; understand and move in their life in a way they never knew they could. Ben incorporates an experimental approach to treatment as well, believing the use of expression like play, music, role-playing etc. helps with expressing one’s feelings by having the freedom to do so in their own unique way.
Ben welcomes people from all walks of life and invites all races/ethnicities, religious backgrounds, and gender identities to his therapy room. He specializes in working with Asian American Pacific Islander intergenerational trauma, religious trauma, relational issues, transitional age youth, sexual-orientation,PTSD, ADHD, family conflict, anxiety, and depression. He is specifically interested in working with communities such as BIPOC, AAPI, and LGBTQ+.
When working with Ben for the first time you can expect to feel a sense of safety, understanding, and someone you can trust. He likes to create a place where a person can be themselves without judgement and be able to share as much or as little as they want. Ben considers himself a visitor in his client’s life and it is up to them to invite him in.
