Christopher Schadt, Psy.D.
Chris became a psychologist because of his strong interest in human behavior, relationships, and issues of meaning and purpose in life. He finds great joy in using therapy as a space to collaboratively explore these issues in his work, helping his clients live fuller, freer, and more meaningful lives.
Philosophically, Chris views therapeutic change as occurring through the therapeutic relationship itself, and the unique form of connection offered within the context of therapy. Practically speaking, therapy is a place to examine, explore, and re-evaluate old or counterproductive patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating to others. Through your work together, Chris will help you develop insight into yourself and others, improve your ability to cope with distressing feelings, and live in closer alignment with your values, goals, and ambitions.
While Chris has experience and competence with many clinical issues, he most enjoys working with interpersonal problems, or problems rooted in dysfunctional relational patterns. This is because Chris recognizes that we are wired for relationships, and that many of the problems we experience in life come from damaging or traumatic past/present relationships. Other specific areas of interest include: trauma, anxiety, depression, insomnia and health/pain-related issues.
Chris hopes that during your first meeting together, you feel heard and understood. He believes that before providing any kind of diagnosis or treatment plan, it is first crucial to deeply understand what you are experiencing, and the problem as you see it. He strives to create a therapeutic space that is warm, open, and safe, while letting his client’s work towards growth and healing at their own pace. Because each client is unique, Chris structures each session a little differently, based on your unique preferences and needs.
