Dr. John Mauch
As a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.), my medical training has emphasized a “whole-person” approach to the practice of Psychiatry. Practically speaking, this means I have been trained to pay careful attention to the relationship between your mind, body, and soul, recognizing that you are more than a set of symptoms to be medicated. My approach is warm, relatable, and authentic. I will take the time to get to know you, your background, experiences, and habits, in addition to any symptoms and problems that you may be having. Together, we will explore the treatment options that I think would be most beneficial, and we will discuss each carefully before coming to a decision that you feel best about. I believe that treatment is most successful when you feel trust and confidence in our professional relationship, and you have confidence that I hear and understand your concerns.
I specialize in treating adults, between the ages of 18-60. While we will focus on finding the right medication to help you, we can also discuss alternative treatments to maximize your health including diet, exercise, sleep, and supplements. As a medical doctor, I am trained to prescribe medication in the management of depression, anxiety, psychosis / schizophrenia, ADHD, and insomnia. I will always try to use the least medications possible, at the lowest dose necessary, and for the shortest amount of time required. I will also discuss your treatment options with you, and give you all the information, so that you can decide what medications may be most appropriate for you. I believe that you deserve to know the risks and benefits of any treatment prior to starting it, and I am here to empower you, so that the treatment is in your hands.
With respect to my background, I am a Northern California native with wide-ranging experiences in academia, having graduated from Biola University with a Master’s degree in Theology prior to entering medical school. I am passionate about education and teaching, as demonstrated by the five years I spent teaching General Biology, Physiology, and Botany at Biola University. I continue to have a love for teaching, which I nurture by educating my patients about various treatments, medications, and therapies. My hope is that you will leave our time feeling informed, empowered, and more in control of your life.
