Mitzy D. Ruelas, M.S, AMFT

Mitzy chose to pursue a career in mental health to support marginalized communities and bring awareness of social issues’ impact on mental health. Through her own therapy, she unlearned internal messages that no longer serve her, increasing her own sense of power, agency, and liberation. She developed an immense desire to guide and walk alongside others on their wellness journey.

The core of Mitzy’s work is culture-centered, anti-racist, and powered by social justice, to honor and hold space for the lived experiences of people of color. Mitzy brings her authentic self to all sessions incorporating humor, music, and culture inviting you to bring your whole self too. The therapeutic environment she fosters with clients is authentic, nonjudgmental, empathetic, and filled with compassion while inviting to lean into the discomfort of growth.

Mitzy specializes in Latinx/e counseling and in supporting the healing journey of BIPOC individuals ages 16 and up. In treatment, she likes to work with individuals who struggle with cultural issues such as imposture syndrome, acculturation stress, racial trauma, first-generation stressors, life transitions, intergenerational trauma, anxiety, self-esteem issues, self-advocacy/boundaries, and relationship issues.

When working with Mitzy you can expect a warm welcome energy that meets them where they’re at, and authentic curiosity.
